Chef Ernesto Limcaco was born in Manila, Philippines and comes from a long line of individuals who have worked in the restaurant industry, thus inspiring his passion for food. He grew up in San Francisco and received his culinary and pastry degree from San Francisco City College, eventually working his way up from dish washer to executive chef.
Chef Ernesto has worked in exotic food destinations such as Los Angeles, San Francisco, Vancouver, British Columbia, and Japan to name a few. He’s also one of the few recipients of the esteemed “Outstanding Civilian Services Medal” for his contribution as coach, culinary advisor and mentor to the US Military Culinary Arts Team.
In 1978 Chef Ernesto received a job offer on Oahu and has lived here ever since, working at restaurants around the island including Pizza Bob’s, Rosie’s, Taipan, Kirin as well as the Hale Koa Hotel. Most recently he served as the corporate executive chef for Y. Hata & Co, where he worked for 13 years.
But Chef Ernesto’s dream was always to open his own restaurant. So in 2013 he started Burgers & Things by renting a kitchen inside a bar named King’s Korner with the help of Chef Kara Shimamura. After a lot of relocating from Pauoa, to Chinatown and back again, they were finally issued the permits to open up Burger and Things in August 2016! Kara has since located to the mainland but we wish her well in her next adventure.
The story of Burgers and Things continues…
